Hi, I’m Bri.

I am a wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, survivor, and thriver before anything else. I am also a mental health professional, process artist, learner, and here as a counseling consultant, educator and researcher.

How did we get our name?

The word complement, means to make something better, more complete. This company is all about adding creativity to your personal or professional life to enhance, or complement, your life.

Defining Creativity:

The term creativity is overused and often ambiguously defined. While I encourage each individual to define this term for themselves, I also want to encourage considering the vastness of what creativity encompasses. Through a significant review of the literature, I offer this concise and comprehensive definition of creativity, which accounts for the two main perspectives of creativity.

Creativity is both a domain-specific and or general ability to prioritize novel functionality and promote growth-fostering innovation.

more about me.

  • The Creative Complement Company

Starting this company is the dream I have always had, and never knew how to put into action until my first human child challenged everything I knew about life, love, and creativity. I am so excited to watch this grow and bring the value of creativity to as many people as possible.

  • Wellness Rooted Counseling

I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington and Florida. I knew since I was a senior in high school I wanted to be a counselor and an educator. In an effort to take more control of my time and do more of what I love, I started a mental health private practice, Wellness Rooted Counseling.

  • Process artist

I never intended on selling my artwork. After winning 3rd place in a national contest in high school, I realized people may benefit from seeing my art. It wasn’t until a few years later I stumbled into an art gallery and started selling. The truth remains- it is more about sharing than selling.

  • Dog mom

My husband and I rescued our ‘first-born’ in 2014, but as everyone who has ever rescued a dog knows, he really rescued us.

  • Human mom

Never have I been challenged more in my life, and never have the rewards been greater.

  • My husband wears many hats, all of which I love.

My husband allows me to be the most creative person I can be for all of you and for myself (by doing a lot of the business things I do not like to do). He is also unconditionally supportive of my efforts to heal, explore, and live life. He, like all humans, is not perfect, but I have never questioned his love for me.

  • Reading isn’t leisure

I love reading and am so inspired by reading that I cannot ‘just’ read for fun. I have to take notes or pause to write down an idea that comes to mind. I am working on resting while reading, but mostly accepting this is how I read.
The picture is a snip of a piece I made after reading It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini.

  • There are 3 places I call home

The first place I call home is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the second is the Pacific Northwest. I have enjoyed both of these places with my little family. The picture is from Rainer National Park in Washington State. The third place I call home is a little too personal for me to share, here, but get to know me personally, and you’ll figure it out

  • Dr. Bri

Years ago I made a creative challenge to myself to “keep going” until I earned a doctoral degree in my field of interest. My love for learning and striving to be the best for the clients and students I serve helped me navigate many challenges and recognize how much happiness exists in the world. I focused my dissertation on creativity and racial diversity/multiculturalism in counselor education!
